Brandon Moreno is reportedly quick to jump back into action, pushing for another turnaround after voicing dissatisfaction with an early stoppage at UFC 323. The former UFC flyweight champion appears eager to avoid a lengthy layoff and get back into the Octagon promptly.
Moreno had believed he could stake a stronger claim to a title opportunity after his win over Steve Erceg earlier this year, which would have given him back-to-back victories inside the UFC. He then sought to extend that momentum with a second appearance in 2025, this past weekend at UFC 323. Many observers felt his clash with Tatsuro Taira in Las Vegas was halted too soon, with the Japanese challenger taking a second-round TKO.
Moreno reflected on the defeat shortly after the fight, and reports indicate he’s already lining up another training camp in the near future to sharpen his game.
In other UFC 323 news, Joshua Van’s predicted title-clinching moment nearly materialized on schedule, a point noted in recent coverage. The flyweight division, following the co-main event twist that saw Van defeat Alexandre Pantoja due to an unfortunate freak injury, has suddenly become more compelling. At present, Tatsuro Taira is seen as a likely challenger to Van before Pantoja returns to action, though several bouts could shuffle those plans.
A VestnikMMA report on X indicates Moreno intends to move quickly, aiming to reinsert himself into title contention after a frustrating outing on December 6. The report speculates that Moreno’s next fight could take place on March 1 in Mexico, where he would face Asu Almabayev.
Almabayev, currently ranked #7, has rebounded from a March loss to Manel Kape by defeating Jose Ochoa and Alex Perez, positioning him as a credible opponent as Moreno seeks to reemerge in the title conversation.
Beyond Moreno, two other flyweight contenders are also pressing for a shot this weekend. Tatsuro Taira remains in the mix, but Brandon Royval and Manel Kape—both previously defeated by Alexandre Pantoja—will be hoping to secure a title bid for Joshua Van before the Brazilian challenger can reclaim the belt.
