Chargers Roster Moves: Elevating Hampton, Haskins, Ogbonnia & Campbell for MNF (2026)

The Los Angeles Chargers announced multiple roster moves ahead of Monday Night Football, elevating running backs Omarion Hampton and Hassan Haskins, along with defensive lineman Otito Ogbonnia, from Reserve/Injured designated for return. To create space on the active roster, tight end Tucker Fisk was placed on Reserve/Injured, while Naquan Jones (defensive lineman) and Jaret Patterson (running back) were waived. Additionally, wide receiver Dalevon Campbell was added to the active roster from the practice squad for the game.

Hampton, the team's first-round pick at No. 22 this season, has been a steady contributor in the first five games, rushing for 314 yards and two touchdowns on 66 carries (4.8 average) and adding 20 receptions for 136 yards (6.8 average). His standout performance came in Week 4, when he notched his first 100-yard rushing game of his career with 128 yards, including a 54-yard TD run, averaging 10.7 yards per carry.

During his college career at North Carolina, Hampton established himself as one of the program’s most prolific backs. He ranked No. 2 nationally in rushing yards over the last two seasons with 3,164 yards and was the only player in the country to surpass 1,500 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns in both 2023 and 2024. He earned AP second-team All-America and first-team All-ACC honors in each of those years, while recording 19 games with 100 rushing yards—the third-most in the nation for 2022–24. Hailing from Clayton, North Carolina, Hampton finished his Tar Heel career with 3,565 rushing yards (No. 4 in program history) and 36 rushing touchdowns (No. 3).

Haskins entered the NFL as Tennessee’s fourth-round pick (131st overall) in 2022 and joined the Chargers in 2024. His pro stats include 212 rushing yards and two TDs on 71 carries (3.0 average), plus 18 receptions for 119 yards (6.6 average) and a receiving touchdown. On special teams, he has contributed 26 tackles, including 13 with the Chargers.

A St. Louis, Missouri native, Haskins played for Jim Harbaugh at Michigan from 2018–2021, serving as a team captain in his senior year. That season he earned third-team All-America and first-team All-Big Ten honors from the AP after ranking among the national leaders with 20 rushing touchdowns. Across 33 games for Michigan, he posted 2,324 rushing yards and 30 touchdowns on 452 carries (5.1 avg.), along with 24 receptions for 171 yards.

Ogbonnia, a fourth-year defensive lineman (pronounced oh-TEET-oh oh-BONE-yuh), has started 21 of 37 career games for the Chargers, including all 17 regular-season games and the AFC Wild Card contest last season. He posted 37 tackles (14 solo) and three QB hits in that span. In his NFL career, Ogbonnia has accumulated 73 tackles (38 solo), plus a tackle for loss and five quarterback hits.

Drafted by Los Angeles in the fifth round (160th overall) in 2022 out of UCLA, Ogbonnia appeared in 43 college games, amassing 79 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and 8.5 tackles for loss. He started 12 games for the Bruins in 2021 on the defensive line, earning second-team All-Pac-12 honors from Pro Football Focus and an invitation to the Reese’s Senior Bowl. Off the field, he made the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll seven times and even competed for UCLA’s track and field team in shot put and discus during the 2018–19 season, participating in NCAA Championships and the 2019 Pan American U20 Championships.

Campbell, who spent the offseason and training camp with the Chargers, appeared in two games earlier this season with the Carolina Panthers. His college career began at Illinois (2019–21), with two years at Nevada (2022–23) and a final season at South Carolina (2024). In 60 NCAA games, he started 21 times and logged 88 receptions for 1,471 yards (16.7 average) and three touchdowns. Campbell earned honorable mention All-Mountain West honors in 2023 after recording 31 catches for 594 yards (19.2 average) and two touchdowns. In 2024 with South Carolina, he led the team with a 26.0-yard receiving average.

These moves come as the Chargers adjust the roster in preparation for the Monday showdown, leveraging returning talent while shuffling roles to address depth and special-teams contributions. The evolving lineup reflects a broader strategy to balance explosive playmaking with veteran experience and versatility across positions. What are your thoughts on these changes—do they strengthen the team’s balance, or do they raise questions about depth at key spots?
