A dire warning for Manitoba: the province is facing a persistent measles outbreak, with January 2026 marking the highest monthly case count since the outbreak began in February 2025.
The numbers are alarming. In just one month, Manitoba reported 74 confirmed measles cases, bringing the total to a staggering 393 confirmed and 37 probable cases. This outbreak has been ongoing for a year, and there's no sign of it slowing down.

The province has a two-dose vaccine program for measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella, typically given to children at least one year old, with a second dose offered if exposed to measles.
In an effort to curb the outbreak, Manitoba expanded vaccine eligibility to infants as young as six months old in specific regions. Since then, over 2,000 infants have received the measles vaccine.
