The Power of Mentorship: How a MotoGP Star Shaped a Rising Talent's Career
In a sport as competitive as MotoGP, it's rare to find a story that highlights the importance of mentorship and teamwork. But that's exactly what we have with Pedro Acosta, a rising star in the premier class, who credits his KTM teammate, Brad Binder, for his remarkable progress.
Acosta, the Spanish sensation, has been turning heads since his MotoGP debut last year. With 10 grand prix podiums under his belt in just two seasons, he's a force to be reckoned with. But here's where it gets controversial: Acosta attributes much of his success to the guidance and influence of his teammate, Binder.
"Brad taught me a lot last year because he was faster than me. This helped make me the rider I am today," Acosta revealed. But how did a seemingly competitive relationship turn into a mentorship?
And this is the part most people miss: Acosta's growth isn't just about speed. It's about the holistic development that comes from learning from those around you. He also credits KTM test rider Dani Pedrosa, who, with his vast experience, helps Acosta "see racing differently."
"I take inspiration from Daniel Pedrosa. He has a wealth of experience, having ridden two-strokes, which gives him a unique perspective. We often discuss racing, and it's these conversations that broaden my understanding," Acosta explained.
The 2025 season was a breakthrough year for Acosta, who joined the factory KTM squad. Despite the change in teams, he notes that the support and guidance remained consistent, allowing him to focus on his growth.
"I needed to make a step forward, and I think we achieved that," he said, referring to the work on his mentality during the season.
So, what do you think? Is mentorship an underrated aspect of sports? Can we learn more from our competitors than we realize? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!
