In a bold move, Strategy's CEO Phong Le has raised an impressive $1.44 billion to tackle the 'FUD' (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt) surrounding the company's future during a challenging Bitcoin market cycle. This strategic decision aims to reassure investors and demonstrate the company's resilience.
Le, in an interview with CNBC's Power Lunch, emphasized Strategy's commitment to the crypto ecosystem and the need to address investor concerns. He explained, "We decided to raise capital and diversify our balance sheet with US dollars to dispel the FUD."
On Monday, Strategy officially announced the creation of a $1.44 billion reserve, funded through a stock sale. The reserve is designed to cover at least 12 months of dividends, with plans to expand to 24 months. This move comes at a critical time, addressing concerns about the company's ability to manage its debts and dividend payments if the stock price were to decline further.
Le further clarified, "The FUD was that we might not be able to meet our dividend obligations, which could lead to a short Bitcoin bet." However, he emphasized that Strategy had the means to address these concerns, stating, "In just eight and a half days, we raised enough to cover 21 months of dividend obligations. We wanted to show that we can raise funds even during a Bitcoin downcycle."
Last week, Le assured investors that Strategy would only consider selling Bitcoin as a last resort, if its stock price fell below net asset value and the company had no access to fresh capital.
Additionally, the company launched a "BTC Credit" dashboard, which projects that Strategy has sufficient assets to cover dividends for over 70 years.
This strategic move by Strategy has sparked discussions and debates among investors and crypto enthusiasts. Some argue that it's a brilliant move to secure the company's future, while others believe it's an overreaction to market fears. What's your take on Strategy's decision?
